Bowen Island is 20 square miles of rock lying two miles off the west coast of Canada. It is home to 3700 people, three mountains, two valleys, four lakes, about 15 beaches, two species of salmon, one village and me and my family.

ReplyDeleteThe apples and espaliers are impressive. But the infrastructure... I couldn't believe the engineering and earth-moving and irrigation detention ponds. The magnitude of the ambition showed me what was possible, even on a rocky mountainside, given enough investment and vision. So the experience filled me with hope of the possibility of eventual food security, post-oil...
